Its been a big day for India as not one but four films have been shortlisted at the 95th Academy Awards. This is perhaps the first time India has made it to the Oscar nominations or shortlists. The nominations are for the upcoming 2023 Oscar Awards. The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences the authority behind the Awards, announced the shortlisted names of the films in 10 categories, out of which India bags four films, ‘Chello Show’, the popular Telugu song ‘All That Breathes’, ‘RRR original song from the blockbuster’, ‘Naatu Naatu’ and the ‘The Elephant Whispers’ The nominations for this award will be announced on January 24th while the Oscars ceremony of Award function will be on the March 12th at the Dolby Theatre at the famous Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles. Chello Show, produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur and Dheer Momaya directed by Pan Nalin, a film on coming-of-age boy and his love story has been shortlisted will be competing with 13 other films before making it to the finals. Naatu Naatu is a song from SS Rajamouli’s magnum film RRR that came up for nomination and found its spot for the Best Music category. This would be the third major international nomination for the Naatu Naatu Song, composed by MM. Keeravani, penned by Kala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligung.
All that Breathes is by Shaunak Sen with be competing with 13 other films for the Best Documentary Feature for the Oscar Title. The film has previously won the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, and also earned its Golden Eye Award at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. The fourth nomination for India at the Prestigious Oscars is Kartiki Gonsalves’s the Elephant Whispers’, a documentary film that depicts the indestructible bond between the two elephants and their caretakers and is produced by Oscar winner Guneet Monga of his earlier fame, ‘Period End of Sentence’ To make it to the final this film will have to beat 14 other films.
