After giving us inspiring and entertaining films like Vodka Diaries and Love Birds, filmmaker Kushal Srivastava is all set to direct his first war film. It will be based on the life of Air Chief Marshal Birender Singh Dhanoa. An ex- ground duty officer in Air Force himself, the director talks about the film saying, “It's about an Air Force squadron which was headed by Wing Commander BS Dhanoa in 1999. An underdog squadron meant only to do photo-recce but they gradually modified their role and went all out bombing the enemy, as a result, they were the most decorated squadron in the Kargil War in 1999. It will be a proper Air Force war film which Indian filmmakers have not made so far.”
Kushal further added, “I am an Ex-Air Force. I served there for seven years. I had joined IAF right after Kargil in same year, 1999. The Kargil war had affected me very deeply. Dhanoa sir’s squadron was the most decorated squadron in Kargil. He flew in such a high mountainous terrain where no Air Force in the world had ever flown. He also portrayed strong brotherhood with his squadron members like Squadron Leader Ajay Ahuja. He's a true hero. Hence, I chose this subject as his journey inspires me and it’s a very powerful story. This is the story I think needs to be told to the world.” Incidentally he is the nephew of well-known comedian Raju Srivastava.
Talking about his uncle Raju, Kushal says, “Since my childhood, I have been fascinated with films. My chacha comedian Raju Srivastava also inspired me. My chacha used to tell us about his shows, film shoots etc and then I used to share those funny stories with my school friends in Lucknow.” His upcoming film will most likely be shot in Lucknow, UP. Kushal’s last did a short film starring Shreyas Talpade.
