Documenting one of world’s most talk about assassinations, the upcoming film Godse will show cinema audiences a different take on it. Filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar announced the film on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2nd 2021. The film will be from the perspective of Nathuram Godse, who shot Gandhiji. The film is produced by Sandeep Singh and Raaj Shaandilyaa, who last directed the Ayushmann Khurrana starrer comedy Dream Girl.

A teaser poster of the film was released on social media by the makers of Godse with the caption, “Janamdin ki hardik shubhkaamnaaye ‘Bapu’ … Aapka, Nathuram Godse.” Giving his take on the film Manjrekar stated, “The story of Nathuram Godse has always been close to my heart. It takes a lot of courage to back a film of this nature. I always believe in hard hitting subjects and uncompromised storytelling and this one fits the bill. People do not know much about Godse other than he’s the man who fired at Gandhi. While telling his story, we neither want to patronize nor want to speak against anyone. We’ll leave it to the audience on who is right or wrong.”

Godse’s star cast is yet to be finalized and will go on floors by mid 2022. This will be the third collaboration of Manjrekar and Sandeep Singh after Swatantra Veer Savarkar and White.
