There are innumerable praises written for Lata didi, ever since she has begun her singing career 73 years ago at the age of 13. The Nightingale of India has also tried her hand at acting as a child artist in her father Dinanath Mangeshkar’s theatrical plays. One of 5 siblings, Lata was persistent even when some people in the film industry rejected her voice as “too thin”. She has paved her way to make history in India, winning prestigious honors like the Bharat Ratna, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, Dadasaheb Phalke and the Legion of Honour.

 

Lata Mangeshkar has also won the National Award and several Filmfare Awards. On her 90th birthday we reminisce some of her biggest hits. The songs that made her what she is today include Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya, Tu Jahan Jahan Chalega, Khilte Hain Gul Yahaan, Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum, Piya Bina, Beeti Na Bitai and many more. Some of her recent hits include Kabhi Khushi Kabhe Gham, Jiya Jale, Lukka Chuppi. She also sang R.D Burman’s first song as well the last song ‘Kuch Na Kaho’ from the film 1942: A Love Story starring Anil Kapoor and Manisha Koirala.
