Veteran Producer
Director Rakesh Roshan throws light on Re-releasing Karan Arjun and not
directing Krrish 4.
Emotional
quotient has been the USP of his films from Karan Arjun based on the mother-son
relationship and father-son relationship in Krrish and Koi Mil Gaya which acts
as the thread of his films. Roshan says, “In Karan Arjun, a mother witnesses
his two sons be killed in front of her eyes and prays to God to have them back
come what may. That’s the emotional thread of the film, which I try to embellish
with songs, characters and various elements of cinematography.”
Karan Arjun
is known for its memorable music tracks, He says, “Music runs in my family. My
father and brother Rajesh Roshan were music composers. My mother was an
AIR artist and I and Hritik have a good sense of music. Although I can't
compose music when I listen to music I can make out if it will work or not, and
that’s how it worked. The music was done by brother Rajesh Roshan and Indeevar wrote the lyrics. I narrated the
situations and then the songs with lines like ‘Ye bandhan to Pyaar ka bandhan
hai’ and Jati Hoon Main were written, which makes it memorable.”
He adds, “Music
plays a big part in a film's success; unfortunately, we are keeping it at the
backend now. Earlier the recall value of the heroes was only because of music
we can remember Shammi Kapoor with ‘Ye chand sa roshan chehra’, but today we
only have songs in the background so we don’t even know who the hero is.”
Talking
about the trend of re-releases, he says, “A good film will do well anyways if
it’s a release or a re-release. I am re-releasing Karan Arjun because we do not
have wholesome entertainers now. I want to present this film to the new
generation who have missed watching it. Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Kajol were
beginners at that time and they are superstars today. I want to see how people
of the younger generation will see this film, since their values and
emotions have changed, although I see they are still making memes on the film.”
He adds, “I
had conviction about this film that it will work when Rakhi said on close-up ki
mere Karan Arjun Ayenge. I saw that pathos in her eyes, which was one take ok.”
Kritik
assisted him on Karan Arjun and today he now gave a voiceover on the film for
th re-release, He says, “I think this film is blessed and there is some divine
connection about it. I narrated this story to him when he was 14-15, and when I
was thinking of making another film after king uncle he came and told me to
work on the story of re-incarnations, which was karan Arjun.”
Rakesh Roshan shares a very strong bond with his son Hrithik Roshan, He says, “I
can tell him anything as compared to any other actor. If he's not doing good, I
can tell him it's not right. He also tells me to place the camera on a
different angle so that he can give me a better expression. A film has 5
pillars, actor, director, producer, heroine and hero, and we together are
4 already.”
He adds,
“Hritik observes me a lot, how I tackle a subject, how I deal with various
queries and give answers, how punctual I am, how I work on the script and the
story details, locations, screenplay, lyrics, dialogues, songs, which invest
your time and energy. After that, when the money comes, then I put that on the
film.”
Krrish 4, will be directed by Karan Malhotra of Agneepath fame. Talking about not directing Krrish 4. He said, “I will not direct Krrish 4, but I will sit and supervise the film, so audiences don’t need to bother about the outcome.”
