Every technology has its downside. The ever-evolving field of AI has been constantly making headlines for someone's wrongdoing with the use of its tricks and techniques. On Sunday, a video of Pushpa fame actress Rashmika Mandanna went viral. The unverified video instantly surfaced on social media with few users clarifying it as deepfaked or morphed video. The deepfake technology is majorly used by cybercriminals to not only change their voices to mimic someone else but also manipulate videos to make them appear more natural.
The video featured a woman looking exactly like Rashmika Mandanna wearing a tight black spaghetti top entering the elevator. The video was purposely shot in a vulgar manner. The video got over 2.4 million views on X (Twitter) few users after carefully examining the video declared it deepfake.
A journalist named Abhishek Kumar shared the same video on his profile confirming the video was fake. He wrote 'There is an urgent need for a legal and regulatory framework to deal with deepfake in India. You might have seen this viral video of actress Rashmika Mandanna on Instagram. But wait, this is a deepfake video of Zara Patel.' He further added 'From a deepfake POV, the viral video is perfect enough for ordinary social media users to fall for it. But if you watch the video carefully, you can see at (0:01) that when Rashmika (deepfake) was entering the lift, suddenly her face changed from the other girl to Rashmika.'
The Big B of Bollywood Amitabh Bachchan came in to support his Goodbye co-star Rashmika Mandanna. While sharing the tweet of journalist Abhishek Kumar he wrote 'Yes this is a strong case for legal.'
Deepfake videos can be identified by unnatural facial expressions or movements that are seen in the viral video. Such videos go viral now and then with different motives by makers and it's necessary to take legal action against them.
