Veteran Australian Director Phillip Noyce was recognised for his contribution to world cinema and was honoured with the Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award at the 55th Edition of the International Film Festival of India in Panaji Goa closing ceremony.

The Australian film and television Director has a career graph of over four decades starting from 1977. He has directed over 19 feature films in various genres including historical dramas Newsfront, Rabbit-Proof Fence, The Quiet American. He directed the thrillers like Dead Calm, Sliver, The Bone Collector and action films like Blind Fury, The Saint, Salt. He has also directed the Jack Ryan adaptations Patriot Games (1992) and Clear and Present Danger (1994), as well as the 2014 adaptation of Lois Lowry's The Giver.

Talking about Satyajit Ray and how his cinema inspired him Noyce said in his award acceptance speech, 'Growing up in Australia we watched the works of Satyajit Ray and while I am drawn by his approach and especially casting. Whenever I could not find indigenous actors I started  casting individuals who could simply be themselves suiting the role.'

Further praising Satyajit Ray he added, 'His influence continues to guide and inspire Australian Filmmakers. We must turn to his cinematic philosophy ‘less is more’.'
