Shibashish Sarkar Group CEO, Reliance Entertainment & President producers Guild of India spoke at the session 'Is box office the only Symbol of Success in Cinema? A Holistic Analysis at a session organised at Cine Talkies 2024 on 14th December.

Clearing myths about box office collections and transparency in India said," When a Hindi Film is released in India, we find a lack of transparency only in India, because here the cinema theatres don't share the data. While in other countries like China there is no lack of transparency, they take data from cinema halls and you got hourly data on footfalls, collections. India faces these failures but it's a very business centric issue and most of the associations are working in it, on clearing the myth of a film going 100 Cr or 1000 crs. "

Shibashish stated that the overall ecosystem needs a balance, all players exhibitors, distributor, producer, OTT players and satellite player every individual segment all are facing a challenge.

Talking over a debate over creative films or blockbusters he said, "The film Laapataa Ladies is adapted on Ravindranath Tagore which has been adapted 5-6 times. There are stories of it touches your heart and it touches universally. It's the creative process that should excite the filmmakers and producers than making them commercial blockbusters, if the film has a universal appeal, it will automatically become a block buster.
