Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha has opened up about her marriage with Zaheer Iqbal, addressing speculation about religious conversion. In a recent interview, she clarified that she was never asked to change her religion before tying the knot. Sonakshi and Zaheer, who belong to different faiths, chose to marry under the Special Marriage Act, allowing them to retain their respective religious identities.

The actress emphasized that religion was never a subject of discussion between them during their seven-year-long relationship. She stated that their love and understanding mattered more than any religious differences. Sonakshi also pointed out that both she and Zaheer respect each other’s traditions and continue to follow their own cultural practices without interference.

Talking about her family’s reaction, Sonakshi revealed that she was initially nervous about informing her father, veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha, about her relationship. However, he supported her decision wholeheartedly, stating that as long as she was happy, he was happy for her. Her mother, Poonam Sinha, was also supportive from the beginning.

Sonakshi further addressed the backlash surrounding interfaith marriages and stressed that love should be above religious boundaries. She said that neither she nor Zaheer tried to impose their beliefs on one another, and their relationship was based on mutual respect. The couple’s wedding was a personal and legal commitment rather than a religious one.

The couple officially got married in June 2024 in a private ceremony attended by close family and friends. Their grand reception was attended by Bollywood celebrities, including Salman Khan, Kajol, and Rekha. With this statement, Sonakshi hopes to put an end to unnecessary debates about her marriage and focus on her new journey with Zaheer.
