Shah Rukh Khan Starrer 'Swades' Directors by Ashutosh Gowarikar Celebrates two decades. Known for its thought provoking themes and memorable characters, the film still appeals to the masses, still being relevant.

Although Director, Ashutosh Gowariker doesn't seem to be happy about it's enduring relevance, says, " I'm not very happy about the fact that the film is still is relevant, because things should have changed in our country."

Director throws light on starring Shah Rukh Khan in the role which left an indelible mark on Indian cinema. The film portrayed Shah Rukh Khan as a NASA scientist, Mohan Bhargav, who decides to return to the country to make a difference. The film became iconic because of its representation of patriotism and social responsibility in a common man(NRI).

Infact, Gowarikar got the idea to make Swades in an episode Vapasi where he enacted the character of Mohan Bhargav, while the essence of the story stayed with him. It was much more than a 20 minute episode, that needed to be brought to larger audience and so he decided to make a film.

He said in an interview, "We keep saying Mera Barat Mahan but we are not there yet. I gave that thought to Mohan Bhargav and made him actually say it, "Main nahi manta humara desh duniya ka sabse mahan desh hai" and with that philosophy I wanted to talk about nationalism and that vehicle became Swades.”
