Sushmita Sen is back after Aarya with another web series in a fierce character standing strong as the big banner hero. Taali is a biographical web series paving its way through the life of transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant played by Sushmita Sen. It's a women-led web series containing 6 episodes streaming on Jio Cinema. In this article, we will share a review of TAALI with you.
Shreegauri Sawant is a well-known transgender activist. In 2014, she was the petitioner in a landmark Supreme Court ruling that gave rights and protections to transgender individuals. She runs an NGO called Sakhi Char Chowghi Trust which helps people. In 2008, she adopted a girl named Gayatri. Shreegauri was in a famous Vicks ad and was on a TV show “Kaun Banega Crorepati” with Usha Uthup.
These shows tell us about Shreegauri's life and the challenges she faced as a transgender. The director Ravi Jadhav made the shows. They show Shreegauri's amazing journey. The shows start in 2014 when an important court decision was taken place. Shreegauri talks about her life, and we get a series of conventional flashbacks: childhood, transition, youth, and motherhood.
Coming to the star of the show Sushmita Sen played the character innately. The ease she brought to the character is appreciable. She had made this character her own by depicting it in a very natural and precise way. Storylining keeps authenticity throughout with spectacular cinematography. As per writing, Susmita Sen’s Gauri is more a celebration than an accurate portrayal of a revered trans icon. But there are moments where Sushmita stuns people with her absurd expressions. In one of the scenes where Gauri gets hired as a part-time schoolteacher, we can see Sushmita acing that scene with simple but overwhelming expressions of gratitude on her face. Special credit should be given to Sushmita’s makeup and costume team as they had focused neatly on the details of her look. May it be a beard on her face or an iconic big bindi of Gauri the team had done a great job.
Not to forget another notable performance in the series given by Krutika Deo who plays younger Gauri. Overall Taali's review describes a web series good watch for viewers. An inspiring story of trans activists fighting for rights will make you engage during all six episodes.
