One of the most celebrated Tabla virtuosos, the legendary Maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain Passed away at the age of 73 in San Francisco in US. There were complications arising from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis which deteriorated his condition resulting to his untimely death.


Ustadji was admitted to a hospital two weeks ago, having blood pressure issues. His Manager Nirmala Bachani reported his condition in a statement. "He has been admitted to a hospital in San Francisco for a heart-related problem for the last two weeks."


The news of his demise was released by his family on Monday in a statement highlighting his extraordinary contribution to the world of classical music stating, “He leaves behind an extraordinary legacy cherished by countless music lovers around the globe, with an influence that will resonate for generations to come.”


The news of his death has sent waves of grief across the global music community. Bollywood stars and musicians have played their last tribute to the mastro. 


Kareena Kapoor shared a throwback picture from her meeting with Hussain. She wrote, “Maestro forever (sic).” Amitabh Bachchan wrote a blog post to Zakir Hussain, "A genius...an unmatched maestro...an immeasurable loss...Zakir Hussain...has left us."


Grammy winning musician Ricky Kej wrote," Shocked, deeply saddened and devastated by the passing-on of the legend Ustad Zakir Hussain. One of the greatest musicians and personalities India has ever produced."
