Dharma's 'Student of the Year' Duo, Sidharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan, Reunite on Koffee with Karan Season 8:

The boys from the first batch of Dharma's "Student OF The Year" Sidharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan recently appeared on the Koffee with Karan together. Both started their cinematic journey together with director and producer Karan Johar. They managed to hold on to their place in the industry successfully. 

Karan Johar Asks Why Sidharth and Varun Aren't Friends:

The 5th episode of Koffee With Karan Season 8 featuring Sidharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan provided audiences with many insights from their personal lives. Host Karan Johar  took the opportunity to ask them "Why they aren’t friends?"

Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra's Bond: Not Enemies, Not Friends:

Karan asked “The two of you have had so much in common. You’ve assisted on a film, that debuted with the same film, why is it that you’re not friends?” to which Sidharth replied saying it is difficult for two actors to be friends unless they’ve grown up together. However, he later said they eventually get back to where they left off whenever they meet. “Whenever we meet at a party, even recently, the first line doesn’t have to be about hi, hello, how are you, it becomes about something else,” Sidharth said.

Varun also shared his take on the question asked by the host. He said, “Why is it we’re not friends? We’re not enemies either. We’re always going to be bonded. It happens in films. When you work a lot with people, you just end up spending more time with that person. Your life becomes connected because of that. I think maybe me and Sid have spoken more frequently because I happened to work with his now spouse, Kiara. So, automatically the topics come up.” Varun further added how his family also love Sidharth  “It’s not only me, my family is very fond of Sid. Whether it’s dad, whether it’s Rohit. Rohit loves Sid a lot. When they meet, they have a great time by themselves.” 

Alia Bhatt's Casting Controversy: Sidharth and Varun Initially Opposed Karan Johar's Choice:

In another segment, they talked about their Student of the Year co-star Alia Bhatt. All three of them started their careers together in Karan Johar's Student Of The Year. The episode had a special message recorded by Alia for Sudharth and Varun. However, Karan later revealed how Varun and Sidharth didn't want Karan to cast Alia for Shanaya's role. "I still remember with Alia, the first time that she walked in, how both of you sent me messages saying you can't cast her. One of you said she is too young," Karan said.

It was after the shoot started they thought Alia was a right fit for the character. Karan said,  "I am saying it started like this but when we shot with her, three months post that for a photo shoot, I remember she stood quiet and didn't look at either of you. Either she was conscious or shy because you all already knew me. She didn't know me at all. We did the photo shoot, and right after that, I mean, I knew at the first shot," 

While talking about the same Varun added, "Ya even I knew." to this, KJo interrupted and said, "Stop pretending. What rubbish are you talking Varun? You kept sending me images of other girls, you didn't want me to cast her." To which Varun replied, "No no...I didn't know her." Sidharth Malhotra added, "But see, that was what was wonderful, that she was the underdog within the underdogs here already, then she emerged."
