The Documentary Chronicle on 12th Fail by Vidhu Vinod Chopra is now in theatres.

The documentary seems to have been created from the films behind the scenes (BTS) documentation of every moment of the films making, which was quite detailed. From shots taken by different team members, it even includes personal clips that the director shared with his family.

The film made by the veteran director Vidhu Vinod Chopra takes you through the journey of making the masterpiece 12th Fail. The film is kind of a guidebook on Filmmaking as what goes behind turning an ordinary script into an extraordinary film from inception to the end. Its indeed a Guidebook to salvage a project when everything seems to go wrong.

Beginning from re-scripting, every situation, expression, dialogue till the script was locked he kept going even when he was down with covid. Then began the reche, changing the pre- conceived frames and shots at the location, to creating the sets and ambience as per the script, making students act without looking in the camera to dealing with huge crowds and tackling with hooligans on the sets, the film is quite a journey.

The film reveals several facts like initially Varun Dhawan was considered for the role, but Vikrant Massey's simple looks suited the role more as Chopra wanted someone, who could blend into the crowd. It actually proved right during a school scene, when you keep guessing where is Vikrant Massey, the ultimate face of the mega success. Vinod Chopra even shares an anecdote, about his wife’s initial doubts about his choice of lead actor.

While Chopra also shared how he toggled with the Ideas that Vikrant Massey won't be recognised on an outdoor shoot underestimating his popularity. But the actor received a humongous crowd response during the shoot in Mukherjee Nagar, Delhi.

Zero se Start showcases Chopra's passion for filmmaking and his love for this particular subject, his vision and unconventional methods to find the locations, or recreate shots. Chopra also shares that it was only his passion about the story that made him take the plunge to direct it himself, since no director wanted to take up this film. How he kept going strong with unwavering faith in the project in the worst of adversities, that even got into scuffles to protect his unit.

Overall, the film is a must watch for aspiring film makers, technicians, cinematographers, scriptwriters and actors to learn the craft hands on from the visionary director Vidhu Vinod Chopra. But how many of them would land in theatres to watch a documentary is challenging to think, yet unpredictable as the film 12th Fail itself faced doubts and challenges thought it's journey until it had set the records!
