The protagonist of Hum Paanch is Anand Mathur, a middle-class white-collar worker who often gets into difficulty due to his five children, Meenakshi, Radhika, Sweety, Kajal, and Chhoti. The three older daughters are the offspring of Anand and his first wife. The latter two are the daughters of Anand and Bina. The five females have a strategy to try something new in each episode. His second wife, Bina, typically agrees with the girls' opinions, while Anand's first wife, who is deceased, communicates with him through a photograph of her hanging in the living room. The programme was a modest success and contributed to Zee TV's establishment.
