From a middle-class household, Kanya Godbole seeks to assist her hotel employer by posing as her daughter and signing a merger deal on their behalf. However, she develops feelings for Ayan Nanda, a successful young man. She keeps her relationship status a secret from him out of concern that he won't be interested in continuing their relationship. Later, she makes the decision to write him the truth, but he never receives it. Ayan's mother makes him break up with Kanya moments before the truth about their engagement is revealed. Kanya meets Ayan's youthful, cynical uncle Ranbir when she is still in Ayan's short-lived relationship. They argue regularly and have a horrible relationship beginning.
