Ramayana is a mythological story that revolves around Ram who was King Dashrath’s eldest son. Being the king of Ayodhya, Dashrath always imagined that after his retirement, Ram would take over his throne. Dashrath’s third wife Kaikeyi, however wanted her son Bharat to take over the throne. He had promised his wife any two wishes, thus she asks that her step son Ram must go on a 14 year exile and the Bharat be crowned king. Having no option but to grant her wishes, Dashrath reluctantly sends Ram on exile and crowns Bharat the king. Ram accepts without any word and his wife Sita as well as younger brother Laxman too joins him. When Bharat however comes to know that his mother has forced Ram on exile, he is furious and asks Ram to return but the latter refuses to break his promise to his father. Bharat thus keeps Ram’s ‘Padukas’ on the throne symbolizing that he is the true king and not Bharat. The serial is directed and created by Ramanand Sagar. The star cast includes Arun Govil, Deepika Chikhalia, Sunil Lahiri, Dara Singh and Arvind Trivedi.
