Raj, played by Shahrukh Khan is a small time detective who runs his own agency but has not much business to thrive. He one day gets a strange case from a man that he is dying of an ailment and would like to see his daughter Seema, played by Twinkle Khanna, marry a man called Nitin. Raj comes up with a plan where he woos Seems and later dumps her and thus when Nitin consoles her, she would fall for him. Things don’t go exactly as planned because, Badshah genuinely falls for Seema. It is later revealed that the man and Nitin are a father and son duo and want to con Seema, who is the sister of a CBI inspector. Marrying her will stop a fraud investigation. However the plan doesn’t work and Badshah finds out the truth. He later stops a kidnapping and saves lives. Seema starts to understand Badshah better and starts to like him. Soon his business thrives and he has many more cases to handle.
The movie is directed by Abbas-Mustan and produced by Bhawar Jain and Girish Jain. The star cast includes Johny Lever, Sachin Khedekar, Pankaj Dheer, Sharat Saxena, Saurabh Shukla, Prem Chopra, Deepak Tijori, Amrish Puri, Avtar Gill, Razzak Khan, Viju Khote, Dinesh Hingoo, Rakhee, Shashikala and Deepshikha. The music is composed by Anu Malik and lyrics are written by Javed Akhtar and Sameer.
