At the 66th Annual Grammy Awards 2024, India has made a place in the prestigious list of winners. With talented people like Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain creating music that enchants listeners overseas, the country gets due recognition on the global platform. The fusion band Shakti which features Indian musicians Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir bagged the award at Grammy's for their latest album This Moment.

Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain's 'Shakti' Secures Best Global Music Album at The 66th Annual Grammy Awards:

On Monday, The 66th Annual Grammy Awards 2024 are being held in Los Angeles. The Grammys are the major music awards held annually. It is the music industry's highest honour. This year Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain's fusion band 'Shakti' won the award for ‘Best Global Music Album’ at The Grammys for their album 'This Moment.' 

Shankar Mahadevan and Ganesh Rajagopalan Accept Grammy Award with 'This Moment' Album Win:

The Grammys shared a picture on their Twitter handle of Mahadevan and another band member, Ganesh Rajagopalan, accepting the award. They wrote, 'Congrats Best Global Music Album winner - 'This Moment' Shakti. #GRAMMYs.'

'This Moment' Album by Shakti:

The awarded album 'This Moment' was released on 30 June 2023. This album contains eight songs created by masters of music. John McLaughlin (guitar synth), Zakir Hussain (tabla), Shankar Mahadevan (vocalist), V Selvaganesh (percussionist), and Ganesh Rajagopalan (violinist) are the forces behind this win. The band Shakti was nominated along with artists like Susana Baca, Bokante, Burna Boy, and Davido.

Shankar Mahadevan Dedicates Grammy Award Win to India and His Wife in Heartfelt Acceptance Speech:

While giving the acceptance speech Shankar Mahadevan shared his gratitude and thanked everyone who supported him. He gave a special shout-out to his wife in his speech and said, 'Thank you, boys. Thank you, God, family, friends, and India. India, we are proud of you…Last but not least, I would like to dedicate this award to my wife whom every note of my music is dedicated to.' 

Zakir Hussain Shines at Grammys- Best Global Music Performance Award for 'Pashto':

The music maestro Zakir Hussain was also awarded at the ceremony. He received ‘Best Global Music Performance’ for his contribution to ‘Pashto' at the Grammys. He worked alongside Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer, featuring Rakesh Chaurasia - a virtuoso flute player in Pashto. Hussain received three Grammys at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards whereas Chaurasia got two awards.
