DK and Indu live a peaceful and happy life with their two school going daughters Pinky and Minni. One day DK gets a call asking him to come to Nainital urgently. Once there he is shocked to learn that he has a 9 year old illegitimate son Rahul, with Bhavna. The latter and him had an affair while he had come to visit the place and his wife was expecting Pinky. Bhavna has passed away and thus the guardian has contacted
DK to take his son with him. Reluctantly and emotionally, DK takes Rahul home. Indu is devastated to know the true identity of Rahul and the infidelity of DK. She does not accept the child and cannot bear to look at him. Rahul has no idea that DK is his real father and bonds well with
him and his daughters. Seeing the hostility of Indu towards Rahul, DK decides to put him in a boarding school in Nainital. However Rahul comes to know the truth and runs away from home in despair. He is brought home by the police and that’s when he confides in Indu that DK is his biological father. This breaks Indu’s heart and she feels sorry for Rahul and finally accepts him into the family wholeheartedly. The film is
directed by Shekhar Kapur and produced by Devi Dutt and Chanda Dutt. The music is composed by R D Burman. The star cast includes Naseeruddin Shah, Saeed Jaffrey and Shabana Azmi.
