"He was the first of the several celebrity actors who played the role of a narrator in the popular audio book series for kids, called Karadi Tales, He as the narrator in the film Paheli, and the Indian Entry to the 2006 Academy Awards. Naseeruddin Shah for years has been giving performances with his troupe at the theatres in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Lahore . He has directed plays and his directorial debut with films was released in 2006 the film Yun Hota To Kyo Hota established several actors such as Konkana Sen , Paresh Rawal, Irrfan Khan and new comer Ayesha Takia at that time with his son Imaad Shan and his old friend Ravi Baswani."

"Naseeruddin Shah was born into a Muslim family in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh . He is one of the three sons and is a descendant of the 19th century Afghan Warlord Jan-Fishan Khan who was involved with the First Anglo Afghan War and Had also helped the British in the Subsequent Indian Rebellion in 1857. Naseeruddin Shah did his schooling at St. Anselm’s at Ajmer and at St. Joseph’s college Nainital. He had graduated in Arts from Aligarh Muslim University in 1971 and later attended National School of Drama in Delhi. He has been a star and a successful one at that in the mainstream of Bollywood as well as in Parallel Cinema . He has also appeared in several International films and did his first with the role of Captain Nemo in the Hollywood adaptation , in the film The League of Extra Ordinary Gentlemen. His elder brother is the Retd Lt. General Zameerud-din- Shah and is currently the Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University whose son Mohammed Ali Shah is an actor."

"When Naseeruddin Shah was 19 years of age he married a 36 year old Manara Sikri also known as Parveen Murad. His wife was the sister of actress Surekha Sikri , She was a divorced woman and had children by her previous marriage. Naseeruddin Shah had married her much against his parents wishes and siblings who had not approved of this alliance, but he went ahead and within one year of their marriage the couple became the parents of a daughter the stage actress Heeba Shah. The marriage was on the rocks and the couple celebrated when their daughter was a year old. However they were not divorced for many years because of the Nikaahnama, a Muslim contract. Naseeruddin had promised a massive amount to his first wife as Mehr , an alimony in case of divorces and he also disclaimed the right to bigamy .The marriage is said to have ended in a bitter note and it took more than twelve years for Naseeruddin Shah to collect the colossal amount of money which he had promised to his wife. In 1982 he got rid of this pending issue and both of them got divorced after he had paid the said amount to her and he was free from this relationship. Manara with Heeba moved to Iran in the early 70’s, shortly after the couple had separated and he was not allowed to see or have any contact with their daughter Heeba, despite the fact that they were not yet then divorced. There arose a situation when Heeba grew up and was an adult herself she sought out to her father and established a contact with him. She later moved to India and since she hasn’t got married herself continues to live with her father and step mother Ratna Pathak and her two brothers. In the mean time Manara died in Iran in 1990. In 1970, Naseeruddin met Ratna Pathak during a stage show and married her . She is the daughter of the Stage and film actress Dina Pathak. Ratna Pathak herself is famous stage and film personality. Her sister Supriya Pathak is married to the actor Pankaj Kapur, father of the film actor Shahid Kapoor by his first marriage. During the making of several films in the early 70’s Ratna Pathak and Naseerudin , they fell in love and they had a live in relationship as he was putting together the alimony at that time to pay to his first wife Manara. And Ratna Pathak and Naseeruddin were able to marry only in the year 1982 finally after he had secured the divorce from his first wife Manara. With his second marriage Naseeruddin Shah has two sons, Imaad Shah and Vivaan Shah. They live in Mumbai with their three children."

"Naseeruddin Shah is an actor known for the films he has aced namely the ones that received acclaim in the film Industry in India and abroad. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen in 2003, followed by the film A Wednesday in 2008 and Monsoon Wedding in 2001. Naseeruddin Shah did films such as Nishant, Aakrosh, Sparsh, Mirch Masala , Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyoon Ata Hai, Trikal, Bhavni Bhavai, Junoon , Mandi, Mohan Joshi Haazir Ho, Ardh Satya , Katha and Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro to name a few. He joined the mainstream of Bollywood with is film in the year 1980 for the film Hum Paanch in 1980 followed by his film Dil Akhir Dil hai in 1982 co-star with Rakhee. One of his most memorable film was Masoom released in the year 1983 and was shot at Sr. Joseph’s College at Nainital co-starring with Shabana Azmi in which his role is of the estranged husband. Following success of the film Masoom he was flooded with roles and his nex major successful film was Karma along with the veteran actor Dilip Kumar.. He further did films like Ijaazat in 1987, Jalwa and Hero Hiralal in 1988, in which he plays his role opposite to his wife Ratna Pathak as Inspector Ghote. Based on the fictional detective novel Merchant-Ivory English film the Perfect Murder. There after he has acted in several multi-starrer Bollywood films as well as such as Ghulami in 1985 , Tridev in 1989, Vishwatma in 1992 and in Mohra as a villain in 1994. Which was his 100th film as an actor . He has also forayed into Mayalayam cinema in the year 1994 in the well acclaimed drama film Ponthan Mada. In 2000 he played his dream role of playing Mahatma Gandhi which was released which focused on the Assailant’s point of view. He has also played the role of a drunken coach to a deaf and mute boy in the film Iqbal which was written by Vipul K. Rawal with Naseeruddin Shah in mind. In Sarfarosh he plays a role of a Ghazal singer cum terrorist with the mastermind with the lead role played by 1999. This film was released in 1999. And played a role that he is remembered for in Neeraj Pandey’s film A Wednesday in 2008, Naseeruddin Shah has also starred in International Projects like Monsoon Wedding in 2001 and in Hollywood Comic book adaptation , the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen in 2003 with Sean Connery and in the Indian film adaptation of Shakespeare’s film Maqbool in 2003 . In 2004 he played a role opposite to Priyanka Chopra in the film Asambhav with Arjun Rampal as the co-star. In 2005 he went on to work in the Great New Wonderful and in 2011 he was seen in the block buster film The Dirty Picture which did extremely well at the Box office with Vidya Balan stealing the limelight in the major role of her life time. He has acted in several other films like The Blueberry Hunt and the Waiting in 2016. Besides which he has also made his debut in the Pakistani film Khuda Kay Liye by Shoaib Mansoor wherein he plays a short comeo role.. His second Pakistani film is Zinda Bhaag was selected as the Country’s official entry to the 86th Academy Awards for the Best Foreign Language Film Award."
