Curious to learn about the inhabitants of Earth, a humanoid alien lands into a deserted land in Rajasthan with his spaceship. He panics and is marooned after the remote control to signal his spaceship, which is stolen by someone. He goes on a journey in search of his remote and meets lots of people and learns their cultures as well as language by holding their hands. Due to his strange conduct and questions peole think he’s drunk and keep calling him PK, thus he addresses himself with the same name.
He observes people praying to idols and learns that whatever you ask for God will give you, thus he starts praying to God for his remote but when he still doesn’t find the remote, he declares that God is missing and puts up fliers of the same. This catches the attention of a local TV news reporter Jaggu who questions him and comes to know that he is an alien living in outer space. They both become friends and PK starts to trust her. She tells him about this godman Tapasvi who has a strange looking object and when PK goes and sees it himself he realizes it is his lost remote that was given to Tapasvi by someone in Rajasthan.
PK attempts to take his remote back from him but is beaten and humiliated. He becomes miserable and that is when Jaggu decides to convince her news channel boss to meet PK and have a live telecast of the conversation between Tapasvi and PK. Tapasvi tells him that the remote is actually a holy object given to him by God and if he can prove that something he predicted is wrong he will give him the remote right away.
Then PK tells Jaggu about her ex-boyfriend Sarfaraz who she think left her on their wedding day. But PK tells him that it is not true, because Jaggu was mistaken for someone else and a letter which was not meant for her was read by Jaggu and she thought the letter was written by Sarfaraz. Jaggu then calls up Sarfaraz and realizes that she made a huge mistake. Tapasvi is embarrassed by this and gives the space remote to PK reluctantly.
The movie is directed and produced by by Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra. The music is composed by Shantanu Moitra, Ajay-Atul and Ankit Tiwari.
