Ishaan Awasthi, is an energetic 8 year old, who dislikes studying or going to school. His teachers regularly scold him for being distracted and often he ends up ends up being punished. His elder brother however is brilliant at everything and thus his father is very frustrated with Ishaan and decides to send him off to a boarding school. His mother who loves both children equally feels guilty at sending him away but is left with no choice.
At the boarding school Ishaan is quiet and doesn’t talk to anyone. He feels that he sent to a boarding school to be punished for all his naughtiness. His grades go lower than before and every teacher continues to punish and scold him in boarding as well. All that changes when the art teacher Ram Shankar, played by Aamir Khan comes into the class. He realizes on seeing Ishaan’s books that he has dyslexia and meets his parents and explains it to them. He then teaches Ishaan himself and he starts improving. He even wins the art contest, where his art work is made the cover page of the school book.
The movie is directed and produced by Aamir Khan. The film is written by Amole Gupte and the music is composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.
