Sanjay Mehra, played by Rakesh Roshan is a scientist who creates a computer that can be used to communicate with extraterrestrial life in outer space. He one day gets a response and conveys the news to others who mock him. One day while driving home with his pregnant wife Sonia, he has a horrific accident where he spots an alien spacecraft. He succumbs to his injuries but his wife survives and gives birth to their son Rohit, played by Hrithik Roshan, who is born with mental disabilities due to the injuries resulting from the accident.
Sonia raises him in Kasauli. Rohit is way behind in his class and the oldest, for which he gets mocked at times. He has a group of friends who stick by him. Nisha, played by Preity Zinta is new in his town and he plays a prank on her. Not knowing his condition she humiliates him and gets him beaten by her male friends. Sonia comes to his rescue at confronts her at a public place telling her the truth about Rohit. Nisha feels sorry for Rohit and apologizes to him. Soon they become friends. Rohit one day discovers his father’s old computer and communicates with aliens. An alien comes into his house and he names him ‘Jadoo’. On seeing him Sonia is scared and angry that Rohit used his father’s computer, as that is the reason his father died.
Meanwhile some scientists come to know about the alien’s landing on earth and try to capture it, but Rohit and his friends save him. Rohit who used to wear glasses, gets the ability to see without them, thanks to Jadoo. He even becomes normal like other boys his age. But soon its time for Jadoo to leave and with him Rohit’s powers of seeing without spectacles and being normal go away. But Jadoo promises to come back soon.
The movie is directed and produced by Rakesh Roshan. The screenplay is written by Robin Bhatt, Honey Irani, Rakesh Roshan and Sachin Bhowmick. The music is composed by Rajesh Roshan.
