Reshma, played by Vidya Balan runs away one day before her marriage to become an actress. She goes for auditions but fails to make a mark. She then does a sultry dance during a films dance shoot which is remembered by one of the directors, Selva Ganesh and he casts her in one of the songs of his film. He changes her name to silk. Silk’s first song is with her childhood idol and crush superstar Suryakanth, played by Naseeruddin Shah. She is so attracted to him that she gets his attention by offering him long-term sexual relations.
Director Abraham, played by Emraan Hashmi wants to make a film with Suryakanth and approaches him. He however asks Silk to be cast in it to add sex and eroticism in the film which angers Abraham. Silk eventually becomes a sex symbol in the country and every director wants to add one songs with her in it. Silk becomes close to Suryakanth’s brother Ramakanth, played by Tusshar Kapoor who admires her. She realizes that Ramakanth is the only man who loves her more for who she is than just her body. A tabloid however writes an article on how Silk is having an affair with both brothers. This infuriates Suryakanth and he stops taking Silk in his films. Ramakanth too breaks his relationship with her.
Heartbroken and miserable Silk takes to drinking and smoking heavily. Her career goes downhill. All the directors and producers refuse to work with her. She gains weight and loses her sex symbol status. Meanwhile Abraham becomes successful and feels sorry for Silk who starts confiding in him. Abraham starts to fall in love with her but unfortunately one day she commits suicide by overdosing on sleeping pills.
The movie is directed by Milan Luthria and produced by Ekta & Shobha Kapoor. The music is composed by Vishal-Shekhar.
