With Shanghai Emraan Hashmi tight lipped his critics In a career spanning over a decade and more Emraan Hashmi been a butt of criticism by the film critics. He was never credited more than a lover boy and serial kisser but with Dibakar Banerjee's Shanghai Emraan Khan tight lipped all the film critics and compelled them to sit-back and notice his marvelous performance. In this film Emraan Hashmi played a complete reversal of his typical lover boy image. Unlike the loveable and dashing stud, Emraan played an ugly guy, who is so repulsive that no girl attracts him. His character of Joginder Parmar is a small time journalist. Emraan had hard times getting into the skin of the character. To look ugly he had to put on extra 10 kg weight, applied double shades to look darker, had to alter his teeth to look stained and ugly. In nutshell Emraan had completely transformed his looks and on acting front too he worked minutely studying every nuance of the character, which was based on a real life person. After watching this film even Emraan’s hard core critic accepted Emraan’s histrionics and applauded his act. The icing on the cake was the film won Emraan a Filmfare nomination as Best Supporting Actor

Emraan Hashmi began as his career in showbiz as Child Model Emraan Hashmi began his journey in showbiz at the age of 7 years as a child model for the popular Goodnight mosquito repellent. He was paid handsome Rs 2500 in the mid 80’s. Later he did about 15 advertisements including Rasna and Bournvita. However Emraan claims that though he did the advertisement films at the behest of his parents but personally he was reluctant as he hated to grab attention. Hence when he was intelligent enough by the age of 9 years he declined accepting advertisement and quit glamour world. He focused on his studies. He was a student of Mumbai’s renowned Jamnabai Narsee School. He did his graduation from Mumbai’s elite Sydenham College. Emraan Hashmi wanted to do computer graphics but landed in Bollywod accidently! Emraan Hashmi was born in Mumbai’s posh Bandra locality. His father was a famous businessman hence Emraan was born with silver spoon in his mouth. He was a typical Bandra boy, who was a happy-go- lucky guy, partying with friends late night, getting up late at noon, watching only Hollywood movies and leading a carefree life. He hated showbiz and public attention hence he quit lucrative career as Child Model. He aspired to do Computer Graphics after completing his graduation but alas there were no Computer Institute teaching such courses as Computers had just made their presence felt in India at the early 90’s. Being nephew of popular filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, he lived life King size but Mahesh Bhatt forced him into films as his assistant when he turned 20 year old. But Emraan confides that he used to just visit Bhatt Sahab’s set and have fabulous time flirting with heroines and never worked. Bhatt Sahab noticed his arrogance and instead of rebuking him he decided to put him in front of camera instead of film direction.

Emraan Hashmi became a stronger man after fighting his 4 year old son’s cancer Emraan Hashmi married his college girl friend Parveen Shahani in 2006. He had a six and half year relationship with her. They were blessed with a cute son on 3 February, 2010 but alas on January 15, 2014 he was diagnosed cancer. Before Emraan Hasahmi came to know about his four year old son Ayaan suffering from cancer he was happy –go-lucky kind of guy. He took life lightly but the trauma and tribulation that he and his wife underwent through the medication process made him a strong man. So much that he penned a book titled The Kiss of Life: How A Superhero and My Son Defeated Cancer –in which he described his struggle to save his son from the jaws of death. When asked which chapter did he find most hard to write, Emraan in an interview confessed, “The last chapter because it was hard to digest the fact that my little son inspired me to live life with dignity!

Emraan Hashmi was reluctant to take up acting but Mahesh Bhatt insisted After Emraan Hashmi assisted Mahesh Bhatt during the film Raaz (2002), Bhatt Sahab recognized Emraan’s arrogant attitude and his dislike for the profession of being film director. Hence he decided to make him an actor. When Bhatt offered Emraan the idea of taking up acting as career, Emraan was reluctant as he disliked Bollywood and glamour. Secondly his Hindi was also not fluent hence he tried to ignore. But Bhatt insisted and on his insistence Emraan was provided training in acting and given a supporting role in Bhatt’s home production Footpath (2003). Emraan Hashmi became a star with his second film Murder After a modest success of Footpath, Mahesh Bhatt took the gamble and promoted Emraan from supporting actor to lead hero in his next erotic thriller Murder (2004) with hot sex siren Mallika Sherawat. The movie proved a gold mine at box office thanks to film director Anurag Basu’s edge of the seat direction, taut suspense, tight screenplay, excellent music and above all bold and hot seductive kissing scenes. After the success of Murder Emraan Hashmi did a series of romantic thriller like Zeher, Aashiq Banaya Aapne, Aksar, Gangster etc. The highlight of each film was ‘mandatory’ erotic lip kisses that labeled Emraan Hashmi as Serial Kisser! Emraan Hashmi rates his best Kiss with Jacqueline Fernandez in Murder 2 With his debut film Footpath (2003) to his last big hit –Azhar, Emraan Hashmi’s success has been attributed to his on- screen kiss. In fact filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, who introduced Emraan in film, realized the importance of Kiss in Emraan’s film when their film Awarapan failed as it had no kiss scene. After that Bhatt made it a point to have a Kiss scene in Emraan’s film because he felt the audience thronged cinema halls to watch his Kiss. Hence like Bhatt, other film producers too incorporated a Kiss scene ‘mandatory’ in very Emraan film taking into consideration people’s demand. Thus Emraan Hashmi wom the infamous tagline Serial Kisser and has record of kissing about 32 actresses in career more than a decade!! His famous kiss include in films like Murder, Zeher, Aksar, Aashiq Banaya Apne, Gangster, Murder 2, Azhar etc. During Karan Johar’s TV show Emraan rated his best Kiss scene with Jacqueline Fernandez in Murder 2 and his worst with Mallika Sherawat in Murder. Emraan Hashmi’s forthcoming releases His forthcoming releases include his reunion with Ajay Devgn in Baadshaho which is directed by Milan Luthria, who brought the two actors together in Once Upon A Time In Mumbai. Milan Luthria’s Baadshaho like Once Upon A Time In Mumbai (which was inspired from real life story of underworld don Haji Mastan and Dawood Ibrahim) has been inspired by real life story during Emergency era in the 70’s. Yet again Ajay Devgn plays a gold smuggler but Emrran Hashmi, has a challenging role of an Army officer, who exposes Devgn’s evil act.
