Baburat in Cooch Behar and then did her further studies in Delhi in Mass Communication at Jamia Milia Islamia. But she left the course halfway and proceeded to Mumbai to pursue acting and join the entertainment industry.

Mouni Roy by nature is very talkative and bubbling with energy but has done roles in television or films, requiring her to be subtle and silent.

Her first stint was as a background dancer for a song in the film Nahi Hona in 2004.  

Mouni Roy is famous for her television roles and is known best for her role as Krishna Tulsi in the popular soap, ‘ Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ in 2007. She was then seen as Sati in ‘Devon Ke Dev Mahadev’ and as Shivanya/ Shivangi Singh in ‘Naagin’. She played the role of Meera in ‘Junoon-Aisi Nafrat Toh Kaisa Ishq’ and was one of the contestants and the finalist for the Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa in 2014.

Mouni Roy who started her career in television in 2007 opposite Pulkit Samrat, has also participated in the first season of Zara Nachke Dikha along with Karishma Tanna and Jennifer Winget. She won in this season for the best dancer. Roy in 2008 appeared in Pati Patni Aur Who along with Gaurav Chopra and was later in the role of Roop in ‘Do Saheliyaan’.

Her breakthrough and success in the television industry was in the period 2011 to 2017.

In 2011 Mouni Roy got her new break for films in a Punjabi movie, ‘ Hero Hitler in Love’ and got her fame as Meera opposite Aditya Rediij in ‘ Life Ok’s Junoon – Aisi Nafrat Toh Kaisa Ishq.  followed by her role as Sati in the mythological series Devon Ke Dev Mahadev.

Thereafter Mouni did several television serials and participated in many television dance competitions and reality shows. 

In 2018 Mouni got her break in Bollywood with a film opposite Akshay Kumar for the film ‘Directed by Reema Kagti. She received a positive response for her performance and the film emerged as a commercial success.

She made a special appearance in K.G.F. Chapter 1 in the item song, ‘ Gali Gali’ and appeared in the digital Balaji web series ‘Mehrunissa’.

Her most recent is her playing a role in the superhero trilogy Brahmastra directed by Ayan Mukherjee and produced by Karan Johar. She is co-starring with Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Amitabh Bachchan and the film is set for release in 2019.  

Mouni Roy will also be seen the in film ‘RAW –Romeo Akbar Walter opposite John Abraham.   She has also signed for the film Mogul opposite Aamir Khan and with Rajkumar Rao for the film ‘Made In China’. She also has signed a film ‘ Bole Chudiyan’.

With three major films in her kitty, Mouni Roy made her smooth transition from the small screen to the big one and is all set to surprise the audience with her performance in Bollywood.
