Ali Fazal was born in Uttar Pradesh and he hails from Allahabad and is a Muslim by birth. He was raised by his maternal grandparents and his mother as his parents were separated when he was a child. His father worked in the Middle East Firm.
Ali Fazal did his studies in La Martiniere College and The Doon.
The actor came into Bollywood by sheer coincidence. While in Doon School in Dehra Dun he was actually a Sharp B-Ball player and it was his dream to make a name In this sport for the nation. However, a minor accident that led to his hand injury he could never play the game again. So to utilize his time he started participating in the school theatre and had no inclination to act on-screen.
His parents were keen he studies to become a specialist so he moved to Mumbai and joined the St. Xavier’s College for a degree in finance.
He started his career as a model for TV Ads and he was noticed for his ad films with Pizza Hut, Micromax Mobile. He also was a part of the theatre and performed a proficient and dramatic role in Prithvi Theatres.
He played the role of Trinculo in the Shakespeare’s play ‘The Tempest’
Ali in his personal life has been actively involved to raise fund for many causes. He participated in many shows for various foundations to raise money. He was a part of the Cancerthon by Fortis and NDTV. He was a part of the Race to Lonavla and talked about issues to bring to light the about the damage done by smoking. Similarly, he worked hard towards memory of Paul Walker and went on to help during the Nepal Seismic Tremor
Ali has many hobbies and interest. He loves playing guitar and watches motion films. Appreciates Ball and hockey.
In 2014 the Times of India Award gave him the title of ‘The Most Desirable Man’. He was already popular in Hollywood when he joined Bollywood.
Ali Fazal made his debut on the small screen in an English Language Film “The Other End of the Line’ coordinated by James Dodson. Before he appeared in the American Television in their miniseries ‘Bollywood Hero’, as Monty, in 2009, he had planned a different career and was not cut out for films.
He made his debut in Bollywood in 2011 in ‘3 Idiots’ and was in the film,’ Consistently Kabhi’ in the same year. He also got some interesting roles like the one in Fukrey, and few other well-known films. He also acted in the Bollywood film ‘Blast Baaja Baaraat’ in 2015. He also acted in the film Sex Chat with Pappu and Papa in the year 2016
In 2017 Fazal got a role as Abdul with Dame Judi Dench, featuring them in the film, “Victoria and Abdul.” Dame Judi was the Queen Victoria. The film talks about the story of the Queen and her Indian helper Abdul Karim. The film was showcased at the 74th Venice Film Festival in the year 2017.
He did a small comedy role opposite actress Vidya Balan in the film ‘ Bobby Jasoos’.
He was also seen in the ‘Fast and Furious ‘Series as a special appearance in 2015.
