Richa Chadda established herself with Masaan As Devi Pathak in Masaan, Richa Chadda explored the character of Devi, a girl undergoing the guilt of having sexual relation before marriage and how the society discards her and humiliates her with hate and disgust. The role had a tremendous scope to display talent and Richa grabbed the golden opportunity with open hands. She fueled all her energy making the character live on screen and her career’s milestone performance. The impact of her performance was such that film critics went gaga over her marvelous performance. Some even wrote that she is the soul of the film. When the film was filmed at Cannes International Festival it received a five-minute long standing ovation. Richa was so emotionally charged that tears of joy rolled down her checks! The film fetched its director Neeraj Ghaywan National Award. As regards Richa Chadda she received the Editor’s Choice Best Performer Award from Stardust! With Gangs of Wasseypur, Richa Chadda made her presence felt in Bollywood but with Masaan, She established herself as an actress par excellence.
Richa Chadda had made up mind to become an actress at the age of four Since a toddler Richa loved watching films. Her favorite films were commercial masala movies like Hero No. 1 and Coolie No. 1 but her mother had a different choice. She would watch parallel cinema and was a great fan of Shyam Benegal’s films like Ankur, Mandi, Junoon etc. Little Richa who would accompany her mother and watching art movies would be confused by the difference in cinema that she watched and her mother watched. However gradually she came to parallel cinema and loved its simplicity and its message. As a child Richa began her tryst with acting by taking part in dramas in schools and would entertain her parents and relatives with her acting skills. She claims that when she was just four year old she had decided to become an actress. Richa Chadda continued theatre at college After her schooling from Delhi’s Sardar Patel Vidyalaya, she joined St. Stephen's College, Delhi and took History as subject of graduation. During the college she was active in theatre and won many awards. After graduation she did Post Graduation Diploma in Social Communications Media from Mumbai’s premium Sophia College.
Richa Chadda has no issue dating an actor During the promotion of her film Masaan, Richa Chadda fell in love with a French boyfriend Frank Gastambide and the two were in news for quite some time. But in 2016 reports poured in that Richa had broken with her French boyfriend and has found new love in actress Huma Qureshi's brother handsome brother Saqib Saleem. Richa says that as regards relationship she is open to dating an actor but as far as marriage is concerned than she needs to really fall in love with the person and such person she has still not found.
Richa Chadda started her career as Model With no Godfather in Bollywood, Richa Chadda cunningly decided to begin her career as Model and did many popular advertisements like Minute Maid, Tata Sky, Archies Gallery, Virgin Mobile and Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate etc. Meanwhile to sharpen her skill in acting she got actively involved in Theater and did many plays both in India and aboard including Pakistan. She even did plays with Barry John, theatre Guru, known for grooming ShahRukh Khan. While theater and TV commercials helped her survive financially in Mumbai but her efforts to tap Bolyywood was still far away. She kept auditioning for movie parts and faced dejection. Richa was most hurt when she was selected by Anurag Kashyap for Dev D but at the last movement she was replaced by Kalki Koechlin. Eventually she was spotted by Dibakar Banerjee of Khosla Ka Ghosla fame and offered a break in Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! (2008) Richa Chadda blames 26/11 attack as reason behind her poor debut Richa Chadda was quite excited when she was signed by the great filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee for Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! and was very impressed by the film but alas she says the movie failed to create box office success because the film was released on 28 November, 2008; just 2 days after the deadly 26/11 attack in Mumbai. Hence the film could not help elevate her career. She had to wait another two years. Richa Chadda proved her potential with her second film Gangs of Wasseypur Richa Chadda was on the radar of Anurag Kashyap from the days of Dev D days hence when he began his movie Gangs of Wasseypur, he gave Richa Chadda a pivotal role of Nagma Khatoon, a rustic, rebellious and abuse spewing lady. Besides being a challenging role the other highlight of the role was that the role ranged from a 16 year girl to 60 year lady, which she played successfully in Gangs of Wasseypur Part 1 and Gangs of Wasseypur Part 2. The movie was premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2012 won rave reviews. The film also fetched Richa Chadda her first Filmfare Critics award thus bringing her limelight! Richa Chadda declined many roles after Ganges of Wasseypur After the award winning performance of Ganges of Wasseypur, Richa was flooded with similar roles of middle aged, angry woman but Richa kicked them all. She did not wanted to be typecast hence after lot of rejections she finally selected Akshay Kumar’s production house first film, Fukrey, a comedy drama, where Richa Chadda flaunted her sexy body and took the film critics by surprise for her striking contradiction from Ganges Of Wasseypur! Her character as feminine Don Bholi Punjaban was widely applauded by both film buffs and the critics. In fact her role was so hilarious that she won the Screen Award as Best Comedienne. Again after Fukrey she changed gears and appeared in a sensitive role of dysfunctional couple opposite Shirvastav, in Anurag Kashyap-produced film Shorts titled Epilogue! Richa Chadda excelled in a cameo in Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela Impressed by the talented new comer Richa Chadda, Sanjay Leela Bhansali offered Richa a cameo role of Rasila in his epic film Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela. Though the role was short but Richa left her distinctive mark compelling hard core critics to appreciate her small but effective role. In fact she received a nomination in IIFA Best Supporting Actress category for the superlative role. Richa Chadda set to conquer Hollywood! After her impressive roles Richa Chadda is all set to conquer Hollywood! Sounds unbelievable but it’s true the actress has been signed to play an important in Tabraz Noorani's Love Sonia, an international production (Indo- American venture) on sex trafficking set for a 2017 release. She co-stars Hollywood actress Freida Pinto. She has just complete first part of the film in California. Richa Chadda’s other forthcoming films include Sudhir Mishra's version of the Devdas saga, entitled Aur Devdas in which she plays Paro, Pooja Bhatt's Cabaret, Akshay Kumar’s sequel Fukrey Returns .
