Swara has done her schooling at the Sardar Patel Vidyalaya, Delhi, Bachelor’s Degree at the Delhi University, Miranda House . She did her Masters in Sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi, India.
Swara became a producer with her brother Ishan Bhaskar in 2019 with ‘Kahaaniwaaley’ on 25th January.
Swara has won a Screen Award for best supporting actress, Zee Cine Award for best supporting actress and critics award for Best Actress.
She has done two TV shows Rangoli and The Poetist. Swara has won the Best Actress trophy at the Silk Road International Film Festival, received an award from Actress Sonali Kulkarni at the 8th Jagran Film Festival.
Swara is born to Telugu Indian to an Indian naval Officer Chitrapu Uday Bhaskar and Ira Bhaskar. Her hobbies are dancing, cooking and reading. She is a regular yoga freak, a big fan of Shah Rukh Khan and Meryl Streep.
She has learnt Bharatanatyam from her Guru Leela Samson.
Swara likes to read books like ‘Istanbul: Memories and the City’ by Orhan Pamuk. If she had not chosen acting as her career she would have probably been a History or Anthropology teacher.
Swara made her debut in a supporting role in Madholai keep Walking (2009) which was a commercial failure. In Tanu weds Manu (2011) she was in a supporting role as a bride to be which gave her a wider recognition. Swara’s list of films go this way Ranjhanaa with Sonam Kapoor and Dhanush (2013), Tanu Weds Manu sequel, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015) she played Salman’s sister Rajkumari Chandrika directed by Sooraj Barjatya, Nil Baatey Sannata (Anand. L.Rai’s comedy drama 2016), Anarkali of Aarah (2017). Before coming into films, she was associated with N.K. Sharma’s ‘Act One ‘Théâtre group in Delhi. Madholai keeps walking was one of the first films to be screened at the 33rd Cairo International Film Festival. Swara has acted in a supporting role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish along with Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai, a black and white thriller ‘The untitled Kartik Krishnan Project (A mumblecore film).
She made her debut in a upcoming web series called’ it’s not that simple’ produced by Viacom 18 streaming service Voot. The series featured television stars like Vivan Bhatena, Akshay Oberoi and Karanveer Mehra. Swara has also been a host and presenter in Rangoli from 2015 to 2017. In 2013 she acted in the play listen……Amaya which brought Farookh Shaikh and Deepti Naval together after 28 years.
Swara has been a host for Shyam Benegal’s mini series Samvidhaan, it was aired n 2014(March to May), also appeared as a guest on Pakistan Tv called Mazaaq Raat which was a comedy. (April 2015). She had acted in a film called Sabki Bajegi band opposite Sumeet Vyas which was super flop at the Box Office and then came a moderate film with Bhanu Uday titled Machli Jal Ki Rani Hai. Some of her movies have been ‘Veere di Wedding’ which was a romantic comedy along with Kareena Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor and Shikha Talsania.
Swara has completed shooting for Abbas Tyrewala’s comedy drama ‘Mango’ which was delayed starring Chandan Roy Sanyal and Monali Thakur. She was very keen to act in the film Sultan but was rejected by Aditya Chopra as he felt she would be unfit for the role.
Swara adores directors like Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, Hansal Mehta, Joe Wright, Anand.L.Rai, Vishal Bhardwaj and Anurag Kashyap.
Swara Bhasker got recognized and caused a stir with her performance in the much acclaimed drama Nil Battey Sannata in 2016 and is an actress known for essaying a variety of roles in commercially successful film. Hasn’t been much lucky to get the lead roles but her supporting roles are equally appreciated and remembered for the film she is in . Her films have mostly ranked in top category in highest grossing films. In 2016 she appeared in her first web series called, It’s not that simple with Vivan Bhatena in Maranveer Mehra. A short film produced by Viacom 18 that is streaming on Voot. A story of a modern home maker stuck in an unhappy married life.
If rumors are true, Swara Bhaskar is said to be in relationship with the National Film award winning screenwriter Himanshu Sharma who was associated the making of Tanu Weds Manu in 2011 and in Raanjhanaa in 2013.
