Shilpa Shetty the beautiful dusky 5’ 7” tall woman was born on 8th June 1975 in Chembur . A mangalorean girl from Karnataka by origin, Her father Surendra and mother Sunanda are both manufacturers of pharmaceutical products. Shilpa did her schooling in Mumbai from St. Anthony’s Girls High School and later did her graduation from Podar College in Matunga. Shilpa is a trained Bharatnatyam dancer and also was into sports from being a captain of the Volleyball team in her school. She also has a blackbelt in Karate and is currently working herself out on dance sport form to be an expert in the field.

In 1991 after completing her tenth grade examinations, Shilpa Shetty began her career as a model with Limca Television Commercial and subsequently featured in several other commercials for various brands. She continued to get offers to model for various advertisements until she got the break in the films. Following her break up with her boy friend Akshay Kumar, Shilpa later married the businessman Raj Kundra in 2008 with whom she has a son.

Shilpa’s debut in films in the year 1993 Shilpa Shetty got her debut break in the Romantic Thriller film Bazigar and it was a blockbuster film with Shahrukh Khan and Kajol. Her role as a supporting actress was widely recognized and she won the nominations for the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress. And also the Award for the Lux New Face of the Year Award. The next film in 1994 was ‘ Main Khiladi Tu Anari’ which has Shilpa play a double role and is an action comedy film that earned her praise and nominations at several Award ceremonies. After these two films that did success at the box office, Shilpa Shetty did not have much to do in films. In 2000 once again she acted in a superhit film Dhadkan that marked a turning point in her career for the 2nd time earning her appreciation and brownie points . She rose to fame by featuring as the lead in the three of India’s annual top grossing films, the 2004 Garv which was a film on Cops, followed by her film in Kannada film Auto Shankar in 2005 and the family drama in Pardesi Babu in 1998, 2007 saw her in the film Apne , Rishtey in 2002, Life in A Metro in 2007. Her performance is acclaimed for her role as an AIDS patient in the 2004 film Phir Milenge which garnered her accolades and she got her nominations for the Filmfare Best Actress Awards. Primarily Shilpa Shetty’s name rings in the Hindi film Industry though she has also worked in Telugu, Tamil and Kannada language films Aao Pyar Karen was another film that Shilpa Shetty acted opposite to Saif Ali Khan. The film had her in an underperformance role. She did a few more films Hathkadi with Saif Ali Khan , Govinda and Madhu but the film failed to do well at the Box Office. She then made her appearance in her debut film in Tamil film in 1996 called the Mr. Romeo with actor Prabhu Deva and Madhu. The film was a musical hit at the Box Office and 1997 was one of her most busiest year as she appeared films beginning with Telugu film Veerdevadandi Babu, followed by her Bollywood Hindi action thriller film Auzaar, with co-stars Salman Khan and Sanjay Kapoor . She received the critical acclaim and won the Bollywood Movie Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Prathna Thakur in this film. In 2000, Shilpa shetty received an award once again for her role Dhadkan which earned her acclaim at the Box Office .She received several nominations from various Award Ceremonies under the Best Actress Category . She later went on to star with Anil Kapoor and Karisma Kapoor in the film Rishtey in 2002. Her comic performance that of an eccentric fisherwoman was much appreciated and loved by the audience. And she won dual nominations for Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award category and for the Best Comedian as well. 2004 saw a beginning of new releases for Shilpa Shetty the dusky actress has her film Garv released in which she portrays a Muslim Orphan and a disheartened table dancer starring with Salman Khan. She chose the film because she had liked the subject though the film was a Cop Drama. Phir Milenge a bold topic on a sensitive issue of HIV Patient that she has portrayed who contracts HIV . The film is based on the 1993’s Philadelphai on the social outcast and social taboos which hasn’t been addressed well in the Bollywood as yet. She was one of the first ones to work in such a film that also is close to her heart as she is involved in HIV related charity work. She got her Nomination for the Best Actress once again for her portrayal in the film Phir Milenge in which she is a woman who is wronged by her employers when she gets fired from an Ad Agency when he gets to know she is HIV positive. The film is about the court case and how she deals to restore her dignity. A powerful role that fetched her laurels and fame. Shilpa Shetty did a role very different from her song and dance sequence and went on to do a role of an intense character in the film Dus in 2005, an action thriller film that received average returns at the Box Office. In 2005 she starred in the Kannada film Auto Shankar with Upendra and it earned her the name as ‘ Gabbar Singh of South’ due to her villainous role in the film. In the same year she also starred in the Bollywood relase Fareb with her sister Shamita Shetty followed by a much delayed venture in 2006 was Shaadi Karke Phas Gaya Yaar. The film was a flop but she had got good reviews for her role . In 2007 she featured in Mani Ratnam’s stage show Netru Indru Naalai . The film went on to be a success . Her first release of the year was also Life in a… Metro which won her a significant applaud and was one of the first films to be at the Premier at Leicester Square. The film did well and was declared a semi super hit film within three weeks of its release. Her next release was the film Apne with the three Deols, Dharmendra with his two sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol which was a Box office success.
