Debut and early work (1991–1995)   Karisma Kapoor made her debut in the year 1991 with the film Prem Qaidi . Most of her films therafter between the year 1992 to 1995 failed to do well at the Box Office therefore she had not received the fame and success. But she continued to act in films that came her way and completed quite a few films yet she faced a set back in her career.   Some of the films that she acted early in her career were Police Officer, Jaagruti, Nishchaiy, Sapne Saajan Ke and Deedar which were all critically acclaimed films and commercially unsuccessful.   Kapoor’s release in the year 1992, Jigar was an actin movie with Ajay Devgn. The film garnered good reviews and emerged as a successful film . The film also meant a beginning of many more starring opposite Ajay Devgn as the audience had seen an on screen chemistry between both the stars.   Following year, Karisma co-starred in K. Murali mohana Rao’s action film Anari . The film was a success at the Box Office with a gross earning of 300 milions ( US$ 4.5 million) .From then on Karisma’s career had taken off to the next level. She had some roles with co-star Govinda and Farha Naaz in an action film again Muqabla . Despite the mixed reviews that the film fetched from the film critics, the film was a commercial success. Being a star daughter probably the audience had a lot more to look upto and higher expectations from her which failed to impress the critics. However she remained in the industry and didn’t give up.. She continued to do films that came her way..   From 1996 to 2002. She next starred in Mehul Kumar’s Lahu Ke Do Rang and Mrityudand both of which were critical and commercial failures at the Box Office.   Karisma’s final release was in the 1997 with Yash Chopra’s musical romantic drama Dil To Pagal Hai co-starring Shahrukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit, the film which depicts the love story of the dancers in a musical troupe.   In this film Karisma has acted as a bubbly  dancer Nisha in a supporting yet a very prominent role and she has done a very impressive role . Many actresses had turned down this role to be the supporting but it was one of the best portrayals by Karisma with a lot of scope for her to give her best performance and she did that with ease.    She won the National Film Award and the Filmfare Award for the Best Supporting Actress.   The following year Karan Johar’s blockbuster film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,  was offered to her which she had rejected. Her come back in the year 1999 proved to be good for her as she acted in the year’s most successful films which were super hits.. Karisma once again reverts again as one of the most versatile actress whose acting is so natural that keeps one to wonder what a woman of substance she is.   Karisma Kapoor’s film Social drama Ek Rishtaa, was her next release co-starring with Amitabh Bachchan and Askshay Kumar the film again was one of the superhit films of the year.   In 2002 she had three releases one after another, a romantic drama film Haan Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya, opposite Akshay Kumar and Abhishek Bachchan. Her next film was a woman centric film ‘ Shakti’ the role she played of a woman who fights her right out to stay away from her In-laws who are in a feudal gang war. Her role was dynamic that earned her positive reviews for her portrayal breathing fire and venom to win back her son from the clutches of her tyrannical in-laws. Playing the role of a wounded tigress the audience saw her performance overshadow the rest of her light roles that she played over the years . The film won Karisma her Best Actress nomination once again .  Her next film was ‘Rishtey’ along with Anil Kapoor and Shilpa Shetty . She featured as Komal a wealthy woman who falls in love with a poor man .
