uage film filmmakers initially were hesitant to cast her in their films but she has come a long way since then. After her first appearance in the Telugu film Malliswari in 2004, she earned her commercial success in Bollywood with her entry in the romantic comedies Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya in the year 2004 and Namastey London in 2007. She did a series of Box office hits but her acting was not appreciated and she only did repetitive roles in male-dominated films for a while. Nevertheless with a series of not-so-hummer films that she did her role in the terrorism film New York in 2009 was well received by the audience and she earned her first nomination for the Best Actress by Filmfare Awards. Following her roles in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani in 2009, Raajneeti in 2010, and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara in 2011, her roles were good and she was accepted by the Hindi Film Cinema. She received her 2nd nomination for her role in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan in 2011, she featured in the thriller film Ek Tha Tiger in 2012, and in Dhoom 3 in 2013 which was ranked among one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of that year. Despite mixed reviews of the films from the critics who questioned her ability to carry on a film she still went further to establish herself as one of the commercially successful actresses of the Indian Cinema, particularly the Hindi Films. After the failure of her first Bollywood project, Kaif appeared in the Telegu film Malliswari in 2004 with Daggu bati Venkatesh wherein she plays the role of a Princess forced to flee from her vicious and cruel caretaker. It is said that Katrina received 7.5 million (US$ 110,000 ) for this film and was one of the highest-grossing films in the South despite her receiving negative comments for her acting. The following year Katrina acted in Ram Gopal Varma’s political thriller Sarkar though her role was brief as Abhishek Bachchan’s girlfriend she was next featured with Salman Khan, Sushmita Sen and Sohail Khan in the film Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya, a film which took a turn in her life and a step forward in the Bollywood cinema. Directed by David Dhawan, the film was a successful remake of the romantic film Cactus Flower. She received the Stardust Award for Breakthrough Performance Female for her role in this film. In 2006 Katrina appeared with Akshay Kumar for Raj Kanwar’s film Humko Deewana Kar Gaye a film that was not a success. Later in the same year, she appeared in a few more films out of which was with Mammootty in the Malayalam crime thriller film Balram vs Thargdas in which the Hindu newspaper claims her performance as marvellous. Commercial success 2007 onwards Katrina Kaif’s career took a rise with her films in 2007 when she appeared in four super hits one after another. Starting with Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s romantic comedy film Namastey London which was a milestone in her career and for the first time it was a role that dominated with a woman’s character which she played very confidently. She plays a spoilt British Indian girl. Followed by this film was the film Welcome once again teamed with Akshay Kumar as well as with Nana Patekar, Mallika Sherawat and Anil Kapoor. She played a supporting role as a Doctor in the sports drama film Apne. The film marked the first appearance of the legendary actor Dharmendra with his two sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol. After Apne, she once again did a role in a comedy film Partner a remake of Hitch which starred Govinda and Lara Dutta the film was a super hit with a worldwide revenue of 10.3 billion (US$ 15 million), and the film was a major success. In 2008 the actress had three more releases out of which the first one was by Abbas Mustan, an action thriller film Race, a story of two stepbrothers turned rivals and Katrina plays the role of a secretary to Saif Ali Khan and a lover to Akshaye Khanna is his stepbrother. Katrina Kaif no matter what the role has always looked super cool and a stunning actress. She then acted in the film by Anees Bazmee’s action comedy film Singh is Kinng. The film earned 1.25 billion (US$ 19 million) worldwide revenue and it was the sixth box office success for Katrina Kaif. Her most recent film thereafter was Subhash Ghai’s drama Yuvvraaj which was a box office failure. Despite the film not doing too well at the Box office, her performance was noticed in the male-dominated film. New York and other roles (2009–11) After a series of films that she acted in Katrina Kaif once again acted in Kabir Khan’s terrorism film New York in 2009. Featuring with John Abraham and Neil Nitin Mukesh. She plays the role of a wife to John Abraham who is wrongly detained and charged after the 9/11 attacks. A very strong film that gave her a scope to do some serious acting besides just being the glamorous heroine in previous films that she acted in. New York brought to her the First Filmfare Award nomination for the role of a young anguished wife ... The other films that she acted in were with Ranbir Kapoor in Rajkumar Santoshi’s comedy film Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, a romantic comedy film in 2009, followed by her film with Priyadarshan’s comedy De Dana Dan. In 2010 she also appeared in the political thriller film Raajneeti with Ranbir Kapoor, Ajay Devgn, Arjun Rampal, Nana Patekar and Manoj Bajpayee with Sarah Thompson.. The film was an inspiration for the English film The Godfather. The film received positive reviews from critics and the film grossed at 1.4 billion ( US$ 21 million) with a success at the box office. She did a few more films like the lapstick comedy Tees Maar Khan in 2010, with her item number Sheila Ki Jawani being one of the super hit dance numbers.. the item number was well received by the audience making it one of the most popular songs of that year. Katrina Kaif was trained by Veronica D’souza with the choreography for this dance number. The following year once again saw Katrina Kaif in a super hit film a multi-star film with coming of age drama Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (ZNMD). Her role is Laila. The film received commercial success. ZNMD was one of the most awarded films of that year and her co-stars were Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, and Abhay Deol. Katrina further featured in Yash Raj's Romantic comedy film Mere Brother Ki Dulhan in 2011, which earned her mixed reviews for her role of an unpredictable and talkative Dimple Dixit. A role that is so contrast to her real self. The film was based on the book Mother Maiden Mistress. For this role, she received her second nomination for the Best Actress Category at the Filmfare Awards. Recent work In 2012 she once again appeared in an item number for the song ‘ Chikni Chameli’ for the film Agneepath wherein her dance steps incorporated with the Maharashtra folk dance called the Lavni which was well appreciated and well received by the audience. She later appeared in Kabir Khan’s thriller film Ek Tha Tiger as a Pakistani ISI Agent who falls in love with the Foreign Intelligence Agent. Katrina is known to be one of the most stylish actresses, with poise. In 2012 she appeared in a film with Shahrukh Khan and Anushka Sharma in Yash Chopra’s romantic film Jab Tak Hai Jaan. A commercially successful film with a worldwide revenue of 2.11 Billion (US #31 million) In 2013 she appeared in a small role with Aamir Khan in the film Dhoom 3 by Vijay Krishna Acharya, an action thriller film and in this film she played the role of a Circus performer for which she undertook a yearlong training.
